The world is dependent on seafoods increasingly. However, a recent report of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has warned that phenomenon of climate change is threatening seriously the fisheries industry.
The fishing grounds are places fishing seafood on sea. Currently, 90% grounds of world are located in Asia and Africa’s areas. The fisheries industry plays an important role in ensuring food security in poor countries
Dr. Tim Daw, a lecturer of East Anglia university ( UK) and co-author of this new report of FAO, suggested that change of climate need to be considered as an element influencing to the fisheries industry
“ The fisheries industry has a very important role, especially, in the developing countries. Estimated that about 500 millions people in the world living on seafoods. Additionally, this is also a high protein foods , it’s necessary for our health”, Dr. Tim Daw said
“The fisheries industry is usually formed in areas where other economic industries underdeveloped. Therefore, you knew the fisheries industry often has a key role in economic structure of remote coastal areas”
“The domestic fishing grounds is especially important to food security”, Tim Daw said. “ the grounds are usually in rivers, ponds or in remote countrysides”. However, he said that the fishing grounds are very sensitive with climate’s change.
“ The climate change will make a change significantly of annual rainfall and make ice rivers melt faster. Therefore, these big changes can make the water level in ponds and rivers constantly fluctuating. With the abnormal change of rainfall and drought happens more frequently, we can be in witness of seafood ecosystems’ colloapse”, Dr. Tim Daw worried
Meanwhile, there are many urgent warnings about change of climate being given, the influences which we can’t see all time in immediacy. FAO’s report showed : the negative impacts in climate change will effect to 25% ecosystems of domestic seafood in Africa in 2100
Mr. Daw said “ : there will be a big challenge for ecosystems, therefore, we have to aware of what we are doing and how it’ll influence to next generation in future. If we don’t make promptly, the impacts that we saw will influence to our future”
