The regulation 1005/2008 of European Community that was effective on fisrt of January 2010 arose many of new regulations forcing the producers of processed and unprocessed seafood of Mexico exporting to EU to obey
According to this regulation, all seafood products exploited to export to EU should have a exploiting’s certificate that issued for registered exploiting ships by the appropriate authorities of their country. With this certificate, importers will know that the origin of exploited seafood wasn’t illegal as well as the methods of national and international conservation
For this, all Mehico seafood that exploited on first of January 2010 should have a certificate of exploiting to ensure that these products were exploited reliably and no harms for sea
This is one of EU’s methods to protest the activities of illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing ( IUU )
In this situation, EU fishery and marine head department admitted that the Mexico’s National Aquaculture and Fishing Commission (CONAPEACA) is the appropriate authority in confirming the accuracy of informations noted in exploiting certificate. Exporters must submit these certificates for appropriate authorities when exporting seafood to EU through general director of project, programme and assessment of CONAPESCA
The species that must have certificate are salmon, conger eel, Tuna, Pacific and Atlantic salmon, turbot, herring, trevally, mecluc Cod fish, Greenland turbot and some species of shrimps.
